Everyone experiences fear. Sometimes fear is inappropriate and unnecessary. At other times, we have good reason to be afraid. But in every case, fear reduces our ability to be ourselves. It convinces us we shouldn’t take chances or risks.
We want to let go of unreasonable fear and act more creatively in the face of reasonable fear. We look at the roots of fear—the fear of change, of self-disclosure, of giving and receiving, of being alone. Beneath all of these are the fear of loving and of being loved, our fears of closeness and commitment.
We can find paths that can free us from the grip of fear and help us find and give love even when we’re afraid of its cost. Our inner resources and spiritual allies are always ready to free us from fear and open us to love.
In this workshop we begin with the realization that fear is a given of life. We won’t get rid it totally but we can find ways to free ourselves from its paralyzing grip. This happens when no matter how afraid we are, we no longer let our fear stop or drive us. We will explore specific practices to help this happen.
This workshop is based on Dave’s book: When Love Meets Fear (Paulist Press)
