About the Event
We Need Non-Violence
“Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.”
During the month of August, when concerned citizens yearly reflect on the outcomes of the U.S. using atomic weapons in Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War II, let us gather together to spend a few hours realizing that WE NEED NON-VIOLENCE.
Over 40 years ago, Franciscan men and women joined together at the Nevada Test Site in forming what is now called the “Nevada Desert Experience.” The Mission Statement of NDE is:
Using a campaign of prayer, education, dialogue, and nonviolent direct action, our mission is to stop modern weapons development, including the end of automated warfare and nuclear weaponeering in Southern Nevada. We support personal renewal through desert spirituality and we mobilize people of faith as our primary methods to prevent the return of full-scale nuclear testing.
During this mini-retreat, we will look at the Nonviolence Code drawn up by NDE. It is based on the values of St. Francis and St. Clare. And we can see how to adopt non-violent actions into our personal lives.
Here are the dates for “Saturdays with St. Francis”: June 14, July 12, August 16, September 20, October 18, November 8, and December 6. Cost is $40 per month including lunch.
