About the Event
Hosted by Sacred Sorrows and supported by the San Damiano Retreat, this nurturing program has been developed to bring comfort and peace to the hearts of grieving mothers and grandmothers. No matter how long, or how recent, it has been since your loss, all grieving moms are invited to join Ms. Rita Morton, founder of Sacred Sorrows, grieving mother and long-time women’s retreat director, as she and other grieving moms present an afternoon program of reflection. The afternoon features prayer and experiential activities, guided scriptural and meditative invitations, and concludes with a special Memorial Mass.

Rita Morton
Ms. Rita Morton is the founder of Sacred Sorrows, an organization that exists to help bereaved mothers and grandmothers integrate their deep grief through encounters with the mystery of grace. As a “Chicago girl” formed in a Catholic education of mercy and social justice, and a long-time women’s retreat leader, Rita creates experiences that make space for women to encounter God’s grace and healing within their hearts and souls. After losing her son in June 2019, and participating in the silent 30-day Spiritual Exercises, Rita felt called to utilize over 20 years of experience in retreat planning and women’s ministry to bring forth Sacred Sorrows. By incorporating prayer rituals and journaling, guided scriptural meditations, and a variety of expressive arts, Rita helps integrate women’s thirst for a deeper relationship with their child as they discover new things in their relationship with God. Rita has the unique ability to bring hope and encouragement to ladies while at the same time calling them to connection with each other and to a deeper level of their own unique spirituality.
