About the Event
Three Keys are used as a theme for this transformational retreat. These three powerful practices create a profound synergy where we can more easily tap into and see our unique strengths. Keys are used as symbols for the three main modalities of this retreat and are a metaphor and an artistic reference point.
The first key is walking the Labyrinth. The labyrinth walks provide a sacred space to walk and have contemplative time. The second key is symbolic art creation, done solo and as part of a group mosaic. The third key is short, guided journaling exercises inspired by prompts. The synergy of these keys along with live Native flute music and simple moving meditations (T’ai Chi Chih) make this retreat a time for deep insights and restoration of wholeness.
The Three Keys Labyrinth Retreat includes:
Three guided labyrinth walks (finger labyrinths can be used) accompanied by live Native flute playing
Guided labyrinth drawings
Labyrinth art mosaic as a group
A professional PowerPoint presentation on the fascinating history of the labyrinth
Silent group journaling activities, using the metaphors of the labyrinth and keys
A simple breathing practice to go a little deeper into your inner world
Simple T’ai Chi Chih movements which can be done seated or standing
A sacred sound bath in the Chapel for integration
Key #1 Labyrinth Walks
No experience walking or even being familiar with a labyrinth is necessary. The labyrinth is an ancient tool and will be explored extensively during this retreat. In essence, and metaphorically, the labyrinth is not tied to any religion or belief system. It is a short walk along a single path. There are no choices to be made, like in a maze. The only decision to be made is whether to take the walk. The labyrinth gives us a mysterious and powerful gift which is different every time we walk a labyrinth. As a trained facilitator, Ami will give guidelines for the walk, and as a ceremonial musician, will play Native flutes during the walks.
Key #2 Art-making
Using actual brass keys, we observe and create shapes and symbols. We will work with simple shapes such as circles, ovals, lines, squares, rectangles, dots, spirals, and others. Brass art keys will be a backdrop for inspiration, activities, and physical objects to see and feel. You will be guided, step-by-step. These group activities are done quietly to allow us to go deeper into our own experiences. Working with the shapes and symbols of the labyrinth and the keys, we can drift into a space of inner peace and connection to a Divine presence. It is very powerful to do this in community. You will receive a template to go home with you, walking you through the steps again so you can draw a labyrinth on your own and use it as a daily practice anytime, anywhere. We will learn and use a fascinating process of creating letters with symbols.
Key #3 Guided Journaling
Your writing is for your eyes only at this retreat and no one will be asked to share. You will be guided in a powerful process to gain insight and clarity. You are encouraged to go deep with these activities and you can be assured of your privacy and confidentiality. To help get us into a meditative and receptive state, simple breathing practices will be offered. Plain journals will be provided. You are welcome to bring your own. Retreat center journals are also for sale in the shop.
This retreat invites you to take mindful walks on the labyrinth, be guided in the expressive arts of journaling and drawing symbols, and be part of a community creation of labyrinth making and art.
The Three Keys Labyrinth Retreat is a time for personal renewal and spiritual insights. This time of contemplative rest is designed to transport you to your inner world.
The walks will be accompanied by Ami Sarasvati, a trained Labyrinth facilitator, Certified Music Practitioner, and ceremonial player. Let the sound of the Native American style flute support your inner experience and provide a natural soundscape for your walks.
You are welcome to bring your own special journal. There will be simple journals given out as part of the materials, and there are journals also available in the gift shop. Art supplies will be provided. You are welcome to bring colored pencils or markers.
