Weekend Retreat
Check-in on Friday is from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM.
Dinner is served at 7:00 PM.
The retreat concludes with lunch at noon on Sunday.
Cancellation policy
Overnight or Multi-day/weekend retreats: $50 fee. Day Retreat: $20. Fees may be applied to future retreats. The fees may be waived in event of extenuating circumstances. Contact Kateri at 925-837-9141 x315.
About the Event
St. Francis of Assisi takes seriously the call to follow in Jesus’s footsteps. His conversion launches him into preaching the Good News both near and far. His desire for solitude sent him into the mountains and caves around Assisi, church business took him to Rome, and the impulse for evangelization took him to the Holy Land. In 1217, St. Francis was inspired to send Franciscans to all the world.
With its spirit of detachment and itinerancy, the Franciscan movement is filled with images of journey and pilgrimage. Drawing on biblical stories such as the Israelites’ journey in the desert and the “Way” preached by Jesus, the metaphor of travelling exemplifies the tradition of Christian spirituality. The journey – both physical and spiritual – implies freedom from attachments, progress or forward movement, and attention to holy things and places. On these days of retreat, we will use stories and images from Scripture and the Franciscan tradition to explore our own spiritual journey.
Check-in is on February 17 between 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

About the Presenter(s)
Juliet Mousseau, RSCJ, PhD
Juliet Mousseau, RSCJ, PhD, professed her final vows as a Religious of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in 2020. She serves as the Vice President for Academic Affairs at the Franciscan School of Theology. She is a medieval historical theologian whose work focuses on the twelfth-century Abbey of Saint Victor and contemporary religious life. Her most recent book is Prophetic Witnesses to Joy: A Theology of the Vowed Life and she is co-editor of Life at St Victor (2021).
