The Catechism of the Catholic Church emphasizes that “a well-formed conscience is upright and truthful” and that “[t]he education of the conscience is a lifelong task.” Pope Francis’ “Amoris Laetitia,” makes several references to the importance of Catholics’ individual consciences in issues related to family life.
According to a 2016 Pew Research Poll, about eight-in-ten U.S. Catholics (84%) say they depend “a lot” on their own research in the decision-making process. Advice from family was the second most popular choice among Catholics, with half saying they rely a lot on relatives.
Yet, according to the movie “Social Dilemma,” our minds are being manipulated and even rewired by algorithms that are designed to get our attention and make us buy things, including buying into distorted ideas about the world, ourselves, and each other. How do we form a conscience and weigh the accuracy and veracity of the information and misinformation with which we are bombarded?
Join Fr. Tom Bonacci for this 4-part evening series via Zoom. There will be opportunities to discuss and raise questions which Fr. Tom will use to guide his presentations.
